David,
I flew the j3cub again and I take back my assesment of the climb and glide. It appears that it starts with significant nose down trim.

I was also having trouble keeping it straight on the runway, but when I gave it a lot of up trim, the tail came up and I could keep it straight with little but quick rudder corrections. for some reason this trim change gave me the climb and glide I was expecting.

This is still one of my favorite aircraft in FlightGear. Keep up the good work!
