The new scenery code is still rough, and some tiles fail to build at
all, but I am extremely impressed with Curt's recent work on TerraGear
combined with the better Canadian elevation data available through the
SRTM. Here is a picture taken from the surface of the Gatineau River
just north of Ottawa, using the old scenery built with the 30 arcsec
DEMs:

Here is the same picture using scenery generated from the SRTM 3
arcsec elevation data *and* Curt's improvements in surface
triangulation:

The higher-resolution SRTM helped, of course, but the scenery still
looked much flatter than this until I used Curt's arrayfit tool to
preprocess the elevation arrays generated from the SRTM.

All the best,

David
