STLport has <sstream> but I doubt if it could be extracted as a stand alone file. Have you (Erik) tried STLport on your system? If it works then we probably wouldn't need the simgear compatibility stuff anymore.
If it did work, I wouldn't have tried generating simething like it myself. For my compiler _version_ there just isn't a good STL implementation.
I'll have to investigate some more. If I come up with something I'll let it know.
