..looks like its gonna be GCC for my 6040 too, then. Rob Landley is working on a wee single-purpose linux distro, he adviced me he is waiting for tcc to be able to compile the linux kernel, all the other bits are non-FSF code and ready for him to ask RMS whether it is still GNU/Linux. ;-)
