I'd go with making the lists members only.  As only a valid e-mail address and 
paassword is required, It's hardly a problem to join.

In my experience, some spam will get through anyway as some spammers wil join 
the list just for that purpose (and harvesting e-mail addresses), or spoof 
real list member's addys.  But then they can do that already and the 
incidence tends to be very low.
