It wouldn't be an FDM center.  It is only an easy to define reference point.

Or that point is an arbitrary distance from the nose,  which isn't arbitrary
in most cases.

The 3D Model of the aircraft will be exactly in the correct location in the 3D
world and it will look like it is in the correct location.  It makes no
difference at all in regards to what you are describing.  The appearance will
be the same regardless and the translations which are required for the camera
are trivial.
