The next gen of U.S. fighters are likely to be controlled by engines only - no taiplanes or moving surfaces... (won't this need 'natural' positive lift for take-offs?) ...bit of a brute-force approach, but it means that the wing construction can be more uniform i.e. no need for channeling or conduits, and therfore more simple and stronger, for equivilent weight. This is with a trapiziodal planiform.
