The recommendation to keep the master recording at higher quality is to avoid having to redo work done now in the future - it would be a shame not to be able to use recordings done now at a higher quality in the future if desired. Whilst there's probably a lot of fancy effects that anyone adventurous could have a go at, at the moment just getting some voices in for tower and AI would be a massive improvement over the text.
