Hi All
Using the autopilot in the 737 yesterday all the modes seem to overshoot the
target be it heading, radial or altiitude.
The problem seems to be that the pid if it does look ahead does not take action
untill the A/C has past the selected point.
Is the adjustment for this in the algorithm or the XML file or do we need look ahead
properties in the property tree.
Also is this problem happening in the smaller A/C,172,310 and the like.If not maybe
A/C speed is a factor.
This is what I see with the various modes
Heading:After the A/C acquires the new heading it oscillates around the selected deg
by 1deg.
Altitude:It seems to hold altitude within about 10feet(could be considered insignificent)
Radial:This seems to be the worst of the lot.It will overshoot the selected radial by 10-20
deg and then oscillate around the selected radial. If the new radial is any greater than about
50 deg from the current one the chances are that the A/C will not acquire the new radial
at all even if the A/C is over 50 miles from the station.
This information is provided so what appears to be a good system can be fine tuned to
operate the autopilot as near to real life as possible.

Cheers
Innis
