Many distributions don't include /usr/local/lib on the default shared library path. Try setting it via an environment variable: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib And see if that fixes the problem. If it does, then consider adding "/usr/local/lib" as a line in /etc/ld.so.conf (the global list of directories to search). Then you either need to run "ldconfig" or reboot to refresh the cache.
