I had the same need and I tryed David Calkins little program (under CVS) to drive FG from an external position and attidue provider. (fgfs --native-fdm=socket,in,25,,5500,udp) On a windows platform (AMD XP 2600+), the Flight Gear display was not fluid (it is fluid when using the FG FDM) So I added some code in the MagicCapet FDM (the easiest FDM for the neophyte I am) which reads position and attitude data from a ShareMem.dll library. An external program feed this library with the attitude and position data. Now my FGFS display is fluid and driven by an external program.
As soon I get my laptop repaired, I will flight test everything. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Stilmant" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "FlightGear developers discussions" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, August 21, 2004 2:26 PM Subject: Re: [Flightgear-devel] Bypass FG Physics and Draw Pictures fromReal Data? > I'll try to do somethink like that when I'll found some time. > My goal is to use FG to display data on 2D panel in full screen mode. > > But behind I expect the plane moving in space really, not my goal but > perhaps it will do what you want. > > Anyway this request to create or update an FDM (Fligth Model) > in source it's the folder FDM. > > at start FG use one of FDM class. > > FDM receive data from input (yoke, keyboard) and update plane position > vitess, attitude, etc.. > > But some FDM class do nothing except receiving data from network or > pipe. > > inside one of this class you can receive data from your "real" plane, > and update FG plane data. > > In a first step I'll do somethink like this to connect to flight game > IL2. > Latter I'll try to remove all environment, because I need only the 2D > pannel... but you don't need this step. > > > On Sat, 2004-08-21 at 08:27, Sky Rudolph wrote: > > I believe that this has been addressed before, but I am unable to find it in > > the archives, my apologies if this has already been beat to death. > > > > I would like to use FlightGear to display data from a real aircraft.
