In the _long_ run it might make _much_ sense to use SI units
_internally_ and let every designer adapt their gauge/whatever to the
units they like most.
To my impression SI units are being used "in aviation" at many places -
just not for the "user interface". In fact depending on several 'fuzzy'
factors you might see almost identical aircraft from the same
production line with different units on their gauges, one with numbers
basing on statue miles, the other with numbers basing on nautical
miles. And, just as a note, all European countries _I_ know of use a
QNH in hectopascal to adjust their altimeter .... May, am I happy that
they all use 360 degrees for a full circle :-)
The only solution for not getting confused by this is the use of SI
_internally_ and to offer a set of conversion routines to everyone -
probably by exposing different 'attributes' of the same property (or
any other method that fills ther gap).
Cheers,
Martin.
