All of the Open Source GIS apps that I am aware of are ported and distributed
in ready to run binary packages for Windows users.
Examples : GRASS, FWTools (gdal, OpenEV), QGIS, etc.

Most of the users of open source GIS applications are Windows users who don't
understand how to configure or build software so it only makes sense to
provide them with ready to run applications.

OK, now i'm really confused;
1) Is FG scenery format going to change from .btg/.stg format to something else? 2) Are you recommending "GRASS, FWTools (gdal, OpenEV), QGIS, etc." as better/different tools to edit existing scenery or justa new format?
3) Where does this leave Fred's FGSD?
4) If yes to 1) above will this leave those of us that are stuck on 098a due to hardware/compatibilty/possible bugs with one type of scenery (.btg/.stg) and those that are able to progress to 099 and above with another? 5) It appears there will be a way for FGSD to output to the World DB format, what about taking the World DB format and converting it to .btg/.stg format for 098a/099 users (assuming any new format will involve a new FG version)?

If I read the present situation correctly. I am waiting for the new version of FGSD to be able to share my updated scenery with the World DB but won't be able to get World DB scenery in a format I can use with 098a.

Dene
