Hmmm...it doesn't seem like it is common practice to do that. Maybe some folks are. Of course it is possible to leave old code ifdef'd out for a time so that it can still be built back in using a compiler flag (not sure what would be involved in this case). In any case it sounds like making those commands work with the new code is not a good idea.
