Thanks! I found some useful info on the JSBSim site and added a
simple and naive/erroneous ability to track rotations to my program.
It is enough to play around but leaves a lot to be desired, e.g. the 
camera must be facing the marker card head on in the forward view 
direction and when turning the head to the side the view rotates to that 
side (good) but also down (bad).

Anyway, I put the thing on the web here:

in case anyone wants to try it out (or, hopefully, improve it.. :)

Using the head tracking wasn't all that pleasant - but then my webcam 
defaults to 5 fps which doesn't provide for a smooth ride and my 
computer lacks the horsepower to run the image processing without 
slowing down FlightGear which doesn't help either.
