Hi Curtis,
quick answer on quick question: if there is no better solution available
now then you might try my FGTools program as it runs under Windows.
There might be 2 problems:
1. that there is no documentation for the new functions (there was no
interest in this program and I just develop and use it for my own
purposes, so no doc is needed) BUT you only have to do some very easy
steps after you have placed all your models and created a
ufo-model-export.xml file ("e").
(As I am working this weekend (I am actually at home on duty by call via
mobile phone) I could not write new parts for the doc until the begin of
next week.)
2. that FGTools creates only SHARED entries now when reading from the
ufo-file (there are other possibilities to convert that to STATIC but
this would go to far for this post)
Short description (screenshots say more than words):
1. prerequisite
http://home.arcor.de/vollnhals-bremen/FGT/ScrFGT01.jpg
Go to the "Windows" page of FGTools and select the path to your
FlightGear install (ie to C:\Sims\FlightGear910)
2. read file and autoplace models
http://home.arcor.de/vollnhals-bremen/FGT/ScrFGT02.jpg
Go to the "Models" page of FGTools and press button "Get data from UFO
cursor file". Select the file (normally "ufo-model-export.xml" but you
may have renamed it as you created several of it) and press OK.
3.writing the *.stg file
http://home.arcor.de/vollnhals-bremen/FGT/ScrFGT03.jpg
FGTools reads all models out of the file, calculated the path and name of the
*.stg file, opens the file, writes the information into it and autosaves it. It
is displayed in a checkbox but this can also converted into a editbox with the
possibility of hand-made corrections.
There are a lot of other possibilities which are explained in an somehow older
manual (more then 30 pages PDF).
Might be this could help, please give feedback whether you are interested. The
reply might be delayed as I might be off working this evening or night :-/
