(You just don't fly near an airport you don't know.)
IRL, you are obliged to at all times know where you are and where you are
going: pre-flight planning, navigation... Which incidently is one of the
things for which a flight simulator can be used as a training tool.

Note that there are differences in some details. That site is oriented
around MSFS, wich has some flaws FGFS doesn't have, and perhaps vice-versa.

Some things I've noticed that the author warns for which doesn't apply to
FG:
* FGFS directional gyros *are* drifting as real (affordable) gyros do. 
(model-dependant)
* FGFS metar weather is correct regarding wind directions.

(Cheat tip: use the MP server map.)
