I will put money on the fact that you did not offend anyone. Discussions of open source vs non-free especially as it relates to M$ is kind of like discussing the US constitution. It will bring out heated opinions but it is all for the good of everyone. If you want something as close to pure philosophy as you can get in the computer world search Wikipedia for open source.
