You mean that thing also known as "thermals" ?
Would be great we had these- just some weeks ago I had a sightseeing flight in 
a helicopter- and the thing I noticed on this flight were the strong up/ 
downdrafts and their missing in FlightGear. I miss thhis very much in 
FlightGear, more in small aircrafts than the bigger one. 

It is indeed a very important part yet missing!

We already have up/ downwinds with AI scenery- maybe this could be a starting 
point for you. And I can remember that Detlef Faber wanted to start on 
something like that, but he wanted to use Nasal scripting.
