You can quite easily compile plib, osg, simgear and flightgear in a
local directory without installing any of them globally. For all other
dependencies the debian packages are fine. Thus, there is no extra
overhead for system maintenance. Of course compiling these 4 things
does take some effort, but with Brisa's script even that should be
automated and painless.
Anyway, it's your choice.
