What you are trivializing by calling it our pet peeve is probably the most severe nuisance to the entire project and pretty much on-topic here: People of whom at least one has a strong record of caring _very_ little (almost nothing) about other developers' opinions, are adding features to FlightGear as a system default, even if such feature is highly debatable (how many aircraft crashes do actually result in a wildfire ?) At the same time they are (he is) using strong words against other (aircraft) developers if these consider the respective feature to be a silly one and therefore decide to work around it - as a 'default' for their aircraft. If you expect Gerard to remove his workaround from the F-8E then you should, at the same time, expect Melchior to apply some care when he chooses his words. If Melchior would care, he could probably have started a conversation about wether Gerard's approach is really the best one to take .... well, you've read yourself many times which approach Melchior considers to be the "right" one to clean up "design issues". No, Curt, letting Melchior feel like having a carte blanche to violate almost every rule of polite interaction on this list is certainly not the best way to promote the adoption of 'rules' in this project.
