..1, if Nvidia's latest doesn't work for you, say for some marketing
reason such as "endlifed", see if you can find a "legacy" driver
supporting their "legacy" cards, works at least for Debian people.

..2, I too see a big frame rate drop, around 20 in FG-1.0.1 with 
a Sapphire 128MB 8xAGP Radeon 9800 PRO on X.org's radeon driver, 
with FG-cvs-"1.9x" I see 5fps.  This on a 3.2GHz 32bit Pentium4
with 2GB ram running Debian Sid (GNU/Linux).
(Part of my case is probably caused by some old crud trashing 
Open-GL and KDE-4.2.x, which IME is _way_ much slower than 
KDE-3.5.10 despite all the bragging I hear everywhere else.)
