Just brain storming here. I see a couple different avenues that might be
worth exploring.

1. If someone has a specific goal or feature they would like or need, we
could could organize some sort of contents to achieve that. Participants
would obviously be limited to those with skills in that particular area.
It's possible that the pool could be one or two people, maybe zero people
depending on what's being asked for. Another way to do this would be to
offer a bounty, but then pre-negotiate who wins a chance to go after the
bounty. I see potential for someone hacking together a quick mess and then
trying to claim the bounty ... if we don't structure the arrangements well.

2. Contents are good ... this could be coding, content creation/artwork,
documentation, but I think some thought needs to go into the scope and rules
and objectives and ways to judge/measure the results. Again, if things are
too nebulously defined, there is potential for the whole thing degenerating
into a mess.

3. Another idea I have been thinking about would be to have some sort of
nomination of the developer who contributed the coolest or most significant
thing in the previous month. We could take nominations and then maybe have
some sort of voting process. There are going to be a few developers who
will jump to the top of the list frequently so maybe there should be a rule
that you can't win more than once every "n" months. I like this idea
(because I thought of it myself ... although I'm not saying I've ever had an
original thought.) For instance, Torsten's wife very kindly created a very
cool t-shirt / coffee mug logo. I was thinking we could award a t-shirt or
mug every month. Then you'd be part of a select group of people if you own
one of these t-shirts and you can wear it every day with pride until the
last shreds of the cloth fall of your back in about 8 years.

For #3, would this be something we could do on the forum? We could start a
new nomination thread at the start of each month, and then after a couple
days of nomination, we could setup a poll question with all the nominees and
then people can vote. It won't be scientific or perfect. The only thing we
would need is for someone to volunteer to start the thread every month, and
then extract the list of names and setup the poll question. I'm just trying
to think of how we could do this in "user space" without having to set up
some new mechanism or have someone need to do a lot of web development, etc.

Regards,

Curt.
