I've spent years of my life running "testing" releases, and it hasn't killed me yet. I'm careful about the network security -- layers upon layers of firewalling -- and sometimes I get annoyed by needless incompatibilities and bit-rot (sox, cryptoloop) ... but all in all, the hassle of using a testing release is negligible compared to the other hassles in my life. More importantly, the general rule is that development should "aim for the moving target".
