There is some work going on to make use of an existing standard for realtime simulations HLA/IEEE1516 for that purpose. I expect the code landing just past the upcomming release. So, overall targeting at the topics you wrote on the wiki as well as better interoperability with existing standard components by using an industry standard for the communication.
