Here's a wild idea - once an object has been placed, why not record it's 
position in a configuration file?  That would ensure that no matter what, 
objects would be consistant from run to run, but people could share the 
configurations among themselves so when flying multi-player the objects 
would be in the same place for everyone that used that object position 
configuration file...
