 From a technical standpoint you will have very little troubles in 
gettings used to convert 3d models into a FGFS usable way. It just takes 
a little tweaking.
I'm used to Maya too. Forget about the Maya File Format with FGFS, get 
confindent with OBJ and don't be shy with AC3D, it's a nice 
"complementary" tool ;-)
