I put a merge request into gitorious yesterday to merge the JSBSim P-51D
changes I have been working on into the FG mainline. The merge request

http://gitorious.org/fg/fgdata/merge_requests/10

has lots bullet points describing what the merge will do. But these only
touch the highlights and there are far to many little details about the merge
to be able to spell them all out.

The YASim model is for the most part unchanged but it will benefit from some of
the work done on the JSBSim model. Specifically the fuselage texture is
improved and so are the main landing gear models and these are shared with the
YASim model. The YASim and JSBSim models can live side by side and many of
the enhancements that have been done to the JSBSim model should be fairly easy
to back port to the YASim model if someone is interested in doing that work.

This is a large merge that is a significant enhancement to the existing P-51D
but it is still a work in progress and much remains to be done. At the moment
I am not able to spend much time working on this but it is far enough along
that I think it belongs in the FG mainline so that it can be tested against
2.1 and hopefully released with 2.1. I intend to keep working on this as time
permits and my intention is to eventually make this the most complete and most
accurate model in the FlightGear hanger.

This merge is not exclusively my work as Guillaume (his moniker on the
FlightGear forum) is responsible for the improved landing gear, the rudder
peddles, and the cooling system exhaust doors on the dog house.

Also I have made tarballs available of various versions of this and these have
been downloaded and tested by numerous users (perhaps 60 or 70 downloads total
over the last 3 or 4 months) who have provided lots of feedback. That
feedback was used to improve the model and was very valuable to this work.
