I've just pushed my work on CMake build files for SimGear and Flightgear, to
Gitorious. These files are completely orthogonal to the existing
autoconf/automake build, and are still a work in progress - a few people have
been experimenting with them (big thanks to Olaf Flebbe for moving things
forwards on Windows), but they're still immature.

There's many missing pieces from the current files - no 'make dist' for FG,
Windows support has link failures, and there's no support for building
terrasync using libsvnclient. However they're at the point where wider testing
is useful, so if you're curious, and have some existing familiarity with CMake,
please feel free to test, let me know any problems, or even improve the files -
I'm learning CMake as I go. There's work planned to simplify the Windows
integration with Fred's '3rd part dependencies' zip, but right now you need to
specify many paths on Windows.

My motivation for creating these was my Mac Xcode projects becoming outdated as
the tree (and config) evolves - so I'll be maintaining these, but of course if
you're adding or removing files from the build, I would be delighted if you
update the CMakeLists.txt file at the same time as you update the Makefile.am.

CMake (via CPack) does offer us an automated way to produce RPMs and .debs,
alongside various other 'dist' targets, which I hope to leverage on the build
servers sometime in the new year.

Regards,
James
