App store is more or less incompatible with GPL software. I once hacked a small fg-remote control for my iPod but was only able to run it in the x-code device-emulator and was unable to transfer it to the actual device without being registered as a developer with Apple (certainly not a free option). I gave up on this and if I ever buy a smartphone, it'l run an open O/S.
