I posted this msg
to rec.aviation.simulators and I said I would post
here. The problem I’m having right
now is I am trying to get to flying FlightGear! in Linux (Mandrake 9.0) and I could use more information.
Probably not from FlightGear!,
though. The trouble is to "install" anything in Linux generally needs
a C compiler. Well, I got that working (gcc). Then, SimGear is a prerequisite. For SimGear,
one must needs have OpenGL, or GLUT. I downloaded both and I reckon I didn't
get the right files, and who knows where the heck they need to be for SimGear to find 'em any way. To complicat matters, I downloaded an OpenGL manager called YanC, pretty much the same problem. I've downloaded the NVidia driver for Linux / OpenGL but where to put it so
that it will be found? Then, when I do get SimGear
functional, which folders should all the files for the two FlightGear!
packages be in? Actually, I just haven't gotten that
far in the "getting started" manual for FlightGear!
SimGear, OpenGL and GLUT just don't give me enough
information, so, I'm looking at the How-to's
for help. Discouraging. I'm determined, though. FlightGear! looks very promising. So, to enumerate my questions
clearly; 1)
In Mandrake 9.0 How-To get OpenGL functional
(folders?) 2)
Where to put NVidia driver? 3)
What and where GLUT files to recognized
by gcc? This
should get me started, anyway. I am a Linux novice, I guess. Thanks for any
help. I’m going to lok at the archives now. |
