DMEs are certainly modelled to be as real as it gets, DMEs /
VORTACs and all other navaids do have a limited range in real life,
too - so depending on your exact needs you could do some great circle
calculation using the GPS coordinates from the property tree in order
to get the distance to an abitrary point on earth.
You could then display that value in the console, or directly within
FG ...
Maybe you can tell us in more detail what it is that you
want to do, we can certainly find an acceptable solution
for such an apparently trivial problem ;-)
