That sounds like you've got an laptop.
The problem is that ATI doesn't provide drivers for their moblitiy products and that they tell you to look for them on the homepage of the laptop manufacturer. But they provide ony extremely outdated versions :(
So the solution is to get the latest ATI driver for their desktop products and to patch the driver so that you are able to install it. (There are quite a few pages in the net that tell you how).
If you are using the driver from your laptop manufacturer that'll help.
On the other hand, if you've done that already, and you've still got this problem, you should try an older driver version - especially if you are trying the beta version drivers (IIRC they are called Omega)
