And a modern OS, as Curt says. Debian Sarge or Fedora Core 3 are out "soon", Debian Woody is solid bedrock and Fedora Core 2 pretty good, but a wee bit dated. ..also chk out Knoppix, it runs off a cd and can be installed onto an harddisk, several variants, use clusterKnoppix to build clusters for formation flights. Based on Debian. ..this is a laptop? Can you replace the video hardware or re-allocate main ram to do at least video texture service? > >Sound: ESS Maestro PCI > > > >Thanks a lot in advance. > > > > > > Seth, > > On today's "modern" operating systems, I can confidently say that if > you experience the "blue screen of death" or a "kernel panic" running > an software application (such as FlightGear), there is a bug in the > operating system, one of your drivers, or perhaps you have hardware > problems. > > I'm guessing you are trying to run this on a laptop, but > unfortunately, many laptops do not come with sufficient video hardware > to run FlightGear ... it could be that you are running out of video > ram and your video drivers aren't handling that correctly? > > An application shouldn't be able to crash your operating system these > days ... ..to celebrate finishing a client's lan test box, I tried FG on it. ;-) (Fedora Core 2 on a 2.4GHz Celeron box, 256 MB ram and 16 MB video ram on an Intel 82845G/GL, and, yes, X. ;-)) DRI works according to glxinfo, glxgears gives 1430fps and 150fps blown up to 1400x1050x32bpp, FG got all the way up to 1fps waaaaaaaaaaailing for more texture memory while I crashed the C172 into a generated church right next to KSFO. ;-) -- ..med vennlig hilsen = with Kind Regards from Arnt... ;-) ...with a number of polar bear hunters in his ancestry... Scenarios always come in sets of three: best case, worst case, and just in case. _______________________________________________ Flightgear-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/flightgear-users 2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d
