Yes, I'm only interested in flight dynamics for now. I don't think I have enough performance data and such to run JSBSim so I was planning on running YASim. Can that be run standalone?

Well, given you have a Navy email address, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get access to some aero data. You could also use Aeromatic (see www.jsbsim.org) to give you a good first cut at an aircraft model. JSBSim also features a versatile and configurable control system model which has been used in past years to develop control laws for a sounding rocket, and in demonstrating more involved AI concepts in flight control. There are several ongoing military projects that use JSBSim. For more information on creating/refining a flight model for JSBSim, see the paper I wrote for the AIAA Modeling and Simulation Technology Conference via the "Documents" link at www.jsbsim.org, as well as the July issue of the JSBSim Newsletter for a discussion on creating flight models.
