Sorry to beat a dead
horse here, but I don't want to give up on this idea...at least not yet.
Sometimes you have to give the impossible task to someone that doesn't know it
can't be done, in order to get results.
I'm still interested
in the multihead, single computer simulator, something along the lines of the
CAE Simfinity lines (http://www.cae.com/www2004/Products_and_Services/Civil_Simulation_and_Training/Simulation_Equipment/Simfinity/ipt.shtml).
I can't accept that I'd have to run a separate computer for each screen that I
want to run.
FlightGear has the
capability to display various images (2 instrument panels, outside view, etc). I
just want it to display them all at once. Yeah, the frame rate is going to
suffer, but with a big hairy computer and serious graphics cards, it should be
possible to get a half-way decent frame rate. To start with, I just need to
display all the scenes at once on one screen. Then, it's just a matter of adding
cards and screens, and let Windoze handle that portion of it,
right?
I'm going to dig
into the code to see if this can really be done. I'm scared...
;-{
Next worst case
would be to run several version of FG on the same computer, each one displaying
a different view, with the tasks 'networked' together internally. Not the best
solution, but it might work.
Any advice,
comments, queries, or letters to the editor? Is Windoze the best OS for
this, or should I consider something else?
Thanks,
Bill
