Hi,

The Carrier operations are not yet finished.
I am still working on several things to make that more userfriendly, but the
basic things like starting and landing work.

But for now:
You should comment out the nimitz_demo scenario line
<!-- scenario>nimitz_demo</scenario -->
in your $FG_ROOT/preferences.xml file.

You can start from KSFO's default runway and you should see the carrier on the
right side of you.

You need a carrier capable aircraft. That are currently:
The a4, seahawk or the seafire.
A really good way to explore the Nimitz model is the bo105, even if yyou do
not need a catapult for that ;).
The carrier capable aircraft have a common set of keybindings for carrier
operations.
The carrier h'O'ok is controled via the O/o keys.
The 'L'auchbar, which is used to mount the aircraft at the catapult is lowered
with the L key.
If the aircraft is fixed at the cat you can initiate a 'C'atapult lauch with
C.

Now start from KSFO and look at the carrier. You should be able to see the
arrestor wires on the deck. You need to catch one of them with the tailhook
when landing. So lower the tailhook and try :)
The meatball (the lights at the left side of the carrier) tell you if you are
on the glideslope (middle light above the others = too high, middle light
below = too low).
Remember to apply full throttle when you touch the deck. If you have not
cought a wire you will then have a chance not to just drop into the water.
If you cought an arrestor wire, it will decelerate you anyway.
It is very hard to catch a wire, so keep on trying.

Now on the deck, try taxi to a catapult.

To mount the lauchbar at the cat, you need to taxi with your nose gear exactly
over the catapult, stop so that you do not move with respect to the carrier
and press the L key.
If the lauchbar could be mounted at the cat (= you are near enough the cat)
you will observe your nose slightly pitching.
Now apply full throttle and press the C key. Gently pull the stick backwards
and take off ...

  Greetings

              Mathias

I will be again away from my mail until next monday.
