If you do not need to make it in the real time, maybe you can look into the codes in the "Replay" subsystem of the FlightGear (most codes are in Replay sub-folder) to get some ideas. Based on my experiences, we can just output the data to be stored in the Replay subsystem to a data file. Then you can use this data file for any other purpose.
