I've figured out the problem is that the runway elevation is about 13 feet too
low. The landfill that KSFO is built upon is 13 feet above sea level (more
or less), so there should be a 13 foot "cliff" where the runway overrun meets
the water.
To fix this would require scenery designing beyond my capabilities.
Right now we trust the SRTM data for airport elevations. If we could
get a comprehensive data set for the elevations at the ends of each
runway, we could do even better I think, but that isn't in Robin's
database right now and I haven't had a chance to go looking for the
data. Your approach light scaffolds are definitely an interesting thing
to consider. We need to figure out a way to make them mesh nicely with
the approach lighting, or figure out a way to allow modelers to create
their own custom approach lighting ... (?)
