Slighty OT I guess, but I am moved to ask whether anyone
sees hard lockups using the linux nVidia driver?

A couple of years ago, on the basis of good advice from
this List, I swapped my old matrox for a passively cooled
GeForce4 MX 440, which is installed in this smp box (2 x
PIII on an Abit VP6 - VIA Apollo chipset). I have run
current vanilla kernels and current nVidia drivers at all
times since then and ever I since I got the card I have
suffered from very frequent hard lockups - screen frozen, no
kbd, no mouse, no access to the box by ssh and most
frustratingly, no trace of any problem in my logs. The
lockups are often associated with a web page opening
multiple images - but that is not always the apparent cause
- sometimes it "just happens".
