Hi Hans
As a relative newbie I can empathise with you.

I run FGv098a here OK on 1.8G P4 nVidia GeForce 2 MX (32Mbyte ram). When I tried to run FGv099, the start up screen crashes at "generating sky elements"

Similar error msgs in the Dos window

I have tried eliminating "all" of the "eye-candy" as various people have suggested to no effect.

You have more VRam than me and the problem seems to have some other variables. Try reducing visibility, screen res, AI etc and see if that makes a difference. The posts I rec'd with suggestions are both on Devel and Users lsts so search both. The all have "me" in the title and references to crashes....

Hope the suggestions have better luck for you than me(still can't run FGv099 but will try when I can afford better video system. Also suggest you look for references to ATI Radeon cards... they seem to be 2nd fav cards after nvidia.

Cheers Dene

Hi there,

I'm new to FlightGear and just installed it on my Dell Inspiron 9100
Notebook with the following hardware:

- Multi processor Pentium 4 CPU 3.40GHz

- ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 AGP Graphics adapter: Memory size 128 MB, DAC
Internal DAC(400MHz), BIOS 113-A10812-106

I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2. FlightGear does not run on my
system so far. I installed from the CD I received yesterday from Curt Olson
and used the default options. In the FlightGear Wizzard I could only choose
either the A-10 or the UFO without creating an immediate crash of fgrun.exe.

In either case, fgfs.exe crashes after clicking "Run" at the end with the
following lines in the command line window:

>> opening file: C:/Program Files/FlightGear/data/Navaids/carrier_nav.dat
C:/Program Files/FlightGear/data/Navaids/TACAN_freq.dat
Unknown exception in the main loop. Aborting...
Possible cause: No error <<

On the splash screen it reaches the point of "generating sky elements".

Windows creates the following error message:

>> FlightGear: fgfs.exe - Application Error
The exeption Floating-point division by zero.
(0x000008e) occurred in the application at location 0x00659e42. <<

If I click on fgfs.exe directly, The command line appears with the following
lines:

>> Base package check failed ... Found version [none] at: \Flightgear
Please upgrade to version: 0.9.9
Hit a key to continue... <<

Could anybody tell me what's going wrong here and what could be done to get
it to work?

Thanks in advance!

Hans
