Pull the stick back until the UFO is on its tail. Adjust your view with the mouse so that you can see what you want. Ease the throttle forward and you will creep upwards. I actually usually nose over and back up so I don't have to mess with the view, I just watch the ground get smaller until I think I'm in the right spot, and usually when I look, I am :) Alternatively I think you can just set the altitude in the property tree with the UFO, though I am not sure.
