Hi. When you're starting a new thread, please *start a new thread*, rather
than replying to an existing thread with a new subject line. That way,
it shows up correctly in the threaded mail readers that most people use,
so most people will actually see your post.

Whoa. 0.9.6? That's going on two years old. Why such an old version?

I'm not familiar with the "Getting Started" document of which you
speak; I've never seen such a document as part of the official
FlightGear distribution; FlightGear has never required me to set
LD_LIBRARY_PATH or any other environment variables. I presume
this is something odd about the way Kanotix has set up their
packages (e.g. they may not have libraries like SimGear as their
own package, and so LD_LIBRARY_PATH may need to be set to tell
FlightGear where to find some libraries on which it depends);
in that case, you'll need to talk to the Kanotix people about
why their packaging of FlightGear differs from the standard and
how to get it working.

Or, you could just use plain Debian, which works immediately
after package installation without any such messing with
environment variables.
