Agreed! hovering in the sky is similar to a controlled stall and your
enemy has a long duration to lock the sidewider, sparrow or cannon on
your tail. Besides in a dog fight your predator will like not be
willing to stop in flight and follow right into your tail.
But think of the power it takes to do that - stop and hover at ?#K ft.
Also on the shows this week end they talked about the SR71 (6 times the
speed of sound) and ScramJet (10 times the speed of sound.
