One thing to watch out for is "Turbocache". Some of the more reasonably priced recent Nvidia cards have this "feature" where in addition to the onboard RAM (even 256Mb) they borrow some of your system RAM (the amount varies depending on the total system RAM you have installed).
I'm a bit annoyed at having bought a card that does this, especially since it's not mentioned anywhere at all on the box; I only discovered it when nvidia-settings was showing 512Mb of RAM. 256Mb is more than enough for fgfs and I have other uses (actually, another user) for my system RAM, but it seems that there's no way to disable that feature. > Also, has anyone tried FG in Vista yet? Linux is free, can be made to work exactly like you want it to and doesn't throw a tantrum and insist on phoning home if you replace your DVD drive/add some RAM/breathe at a different rate from yesterday. Oh, and you don't have to spend the rest of your life repeatedly reading out pointless long strings of numbers to a call centre on the other side of the world...
