Hi Donn,
I *just* updated and recompiled the PLIB and OSG branch CVS of FG with
OpenSUSE 10.2 x86_64 without any problem (just for a test after
receiving your mail).
My install uses  GCC-C++ 4.1.3-29.

One personal hint:
first try with SimGear and FlightGear as well

make clean
./autogen.sh
./configure --prefix=XXXXX
make; make install

If this  does NOT help, go into the "source" folders of SimGear and
FlightGear (*CVS!!!* source code) and delete *ALL* except the "CVS" folder.
Then start clean with

cvs update -dP

./autogen.sh
./configure --prefix=XXXXX
make; make install

I have sometimes/seldom strange compile errors which can only be fixed
by making this "clean" CVS update.
