I have updated, also built a new kernel "oldconfig" changing only the 
i586 to k7 CPU for features and stability. I did install, rebooted it 
and re-ran NV's file.  The NV logo does come up and X works.
The URL (at the top) suggests the nature of the problem according to Google.
