Shouldn't libGL be from the NVidia package and not from Mesa for 3d acceleration to work?

One way to check that your libGL.so is the NVidia one is to search for 'nvidia' in the libGL.so binary: (Note that on your system the file could live in a different directory than /usr/lib - use locate)

% strings /usr/lib/libGL.so|grep nvidia
...
nvidia id: NVIDIA OpenGL Shared Library 1.0-8762 Mon May 15 13:40:07 PDT 2006
...
