Hall sensors are non-contact so there is no wear, and give a 0-4V output with a 5V input that is much like a pot (5V GND and Out instead of Wiper). I have been working with Hall sensor throttles for e-bikes and e-motorcycles and they seem pretty bulletproof. Is there any reason not to use Hall sensors instead of pots with a USB encoder? BTW I'm on Linspire Linux.
