these ATI problems have been heavily discussed in the past at several places (Forums, lists, etc). It seems there is no general recipe. It is just a trial and error case. There are people who need an older ATI driver and some who need the newest one (a friend of mine). Other are successful by changing some driver related values. If the older ATI driver does not help, search the FG forum, you'll find a lot of (hidden) hints, ie: http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=772&highlight=ati (go to the bottom).
